Skwentna is not officially recognized as a city or town in Alaska. However, it is a small community located along the Skwentna River in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. The population is very small, consisting mostly of residents involved in outdoor recreational activities such as hunting, fishing, and dog mushing. Skwentna is a popular checkpoint for dog sled races, including the famous Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. The community is remote and can only be accessed by air or by boat during the summer months.
