New Halfa is a city located in the Kassala State of eastern Sudan. It is situated on the eastern bank of the Atbara River and is known for its agricultural production, particularly for the Gezira Scheme, which is a large-scale agricultural project in Sudan. New Halfa was established in the 1950s to accommodate people who were displaced due to the construction of the Roseires Dam on the Blue Nile. The city has several schools, a hospital, and a university. It is also known for its pottery industry, producing traditional Sudanese pottery. The population of New Halfa is approximately 100,000 people.
