Montgomery is the capital city of the U.S. state of Alabama. It is located in Montgomery County and is the second most populous city in the state, after Birmingham. Montgomery played a significant role in the Civil Rights Movement. It was here that Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger, sparking the Montgomery Bus Boycott led by Martin Luther King Jr. Montgomery is also known for being the birthplace of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. Today, the city has a diverse economy and is home to several universities and colleges, including Alabama State University and Faulkner University.
