Igloolik is a small Inuit community located on Igloolik Island in the Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada. It is situated in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and lies in the Foxe Basin. Igloolik is the main administrative and transportation center for the Qikiqtaaluk Region and has a population of around 1,500 people.
The community is known for its rich cultural heritage, with traditional Inuit practices and way of life still being preserved. Hunting, fishing, and trapping are essential to the local economy and continue to provide food and sustenance for the community.
Igloolik is also home to various cultural events and festivals, including the annual Artcirq Inuit Circus Festival, which showcases traditional and contemporary Inuit circus performances. The community has gained international recognition for its production company, Igloolik Isuma Productions, which has produced award-winning films such as Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner.
Access to Igloolik is primarily through air travel, with daily flights from Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut. There are also seasonal sealifts and occasional barge service for transportation of goods.
