Myrtle Beach Air Force Base (AFB) is a former United States Air Force base located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The base was originally established in 1940 as a gunnery range and was later used for training during World War II. In 1954, the base was renamed as Myrtle Beach Air Force Base and served as a strategic air command base.
Over the years, the base hosted various aircraft units and squadrons, including the F-100 Super Sabre, F-104 Starfighter, F-4 Phantom II, and A-10 Thunderbolt II. It also played a role in training pilots for the Vietnam War.
In 1993, as part of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, Myrtle Beach AFB was closed and its operations were transferred to the South Carolina Air National Guard. Today, the former base is known as the Myrtle Beach International Airport, serving commercial flights and general aviation.
