The airport serves as the main gateway to the cities of Palu and Central Sulawesi region. It is named after Salahuddin Muhammad Baharuddin II Al Jufri, an Indonesian Islamic cleric and politician from the region. Mutiara Airport has a single terminal building and offers domestic flights to various destinations in Indonesia, such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Makassar, and Balikpapan.
