It serves as the main gateway for people traveling to and from the Kerteh area. The airport primarily serves the needs of the oil and gas industry in the nearby Kerteh Oil Refinery and Petronas Gas Terminal. It is operated by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) and has a single terminal building. Kerteh airport offers limited domestic flights operated by primarily by Malaysia Airlines and its subsidiary Firefly. International flights are not available directly from Kerteh airport.
