It is named after Antonio "Nery" Juarbe Pol, a Puerto Rican aviator and political leader. The airport serves as a regional airport, primarily handling domestic flights and some small international chartered flights. It has a single asphalt runway and a small terminal building. Although it is not a major international airport, it plays an important role in connecting the town of Arecibo and surrounding areas to the rest of Puerto Rico and other Caribbean destinations.
